CAVITE

The gun ban in Carmona officially started on Thursday, June 8, one month ahead of the scheduled cityhood plebiscite on July 8.

The Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) said the plebiscite period and gun ban will last until July 15.

Cavite PPO has already deployed personnel in established Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoints along Carmona’s entry and exit points to ensure the enforcement of the gun ban.

The local government unit of Carmona, on the other hand, is optimistic about the voter turnout.

“Ako’y naniniwalang mataas ang turnout nang boboto para sa cityhood (I believe that there will be a high turnout of voters for the cityhood),” Mayor Dahlia A. Loyola told media reporters during the Paleng-QR Ph Plus launch in Carmona on June 2.

“Matagal namin itong hinintay, at sila’y natutuwa na kapag kami’y naging city, magkakaroon kami nang fiscal autonomy (We have been waiting for this for a long time, and they are glad that when we become a city, we will have fiscal autonomy).”

On February 23, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has signed into law the measure that converts the Municipality of Carmona into a component city of Cavite. Based on Republic Act 119381, the Municipality of Carmona must hold a plebiscite within 60 days from the law's approval.
