Monarch Joins Mass Cycling Event in BSB

Entering its fifth week, the Bandarku Ceria initiative yesterday witnessed scenes of joy as the people had the opportunity to meet-andgreet His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, with many taking the golden opportunity to take memorable photos with His Majesty and the royal entourage.

 

The monarch also led a cycling event in conjunction with the 46th anniversary of the renaming of Bandar Brunei to Bandar Seri Begawan.

 


His Majesty was accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office as well as His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel and Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah.

 

Greeting His Majesty and the royal entourage upon their arrival at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien were Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rid) Data Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports and Acting Minister of Home Affairs; and Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi, Minister of Health.

 


Yesterday's cycling event began with the release of 46 balloons symbolising the anniversary celebration and another 11 balloons marking the 11th National Youth Day celebration by 57 youths at the starting point showcasing the strength and unity" of youths' support for the monarch and nation.

 


Since the renaming of Bandar Brunei to Bandar Seri Begawan 46 years ago, the capital has seen rapid changes in terms of development and infrastructure that benefit not only the citizens and residents of the country but also attract tourists both local and foreign.

 


Following the release of the balloons, His Majesty led the cycling activity from the Taman around Bandar Seri Begawan passing through iconic and historical buildings such as the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, Lapau, the Prime Minister's Office building and the Royal Regalia Building covering a total of 11.3km, which concluded back at the Taman.

 


Upon His Majesty's return to the Taman, the monarch took a closer look at the Bandarku Ceria activities such as the selling of 'One Village, One Product' (1K1P) participated by mukim and village consultative councils from all four districts showcasing various food and handicraft products.

 


Also present yesterday were Cabinet Ministers, deputy ministers, senior government officers as well as associations, youths, as well as students from schools and higher learning institutions.
