Around 300 stakeholders from the rural development sector are meeting in Davao City on Nov. 3-4 to come up with priorities and recommendations for integration in the Duterte administration’s Philippine Development Plan (PDP) for 2017 -2022.
The thematic summit on food security, land tenure, and environmental protection, whose proponents are the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Agriculture (DA) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), will be attended by government agencies, non-government organizations, and social development experts.
DAR Undersecretary Luis Pangulayan, head of the organizing committee, said: “The summit will serve as consultation mechanism for the three agencies to present the country’s current state on food security, agrarian reform and environmental protection initiatives to our stakeholders and rural development experts.”
Pangulayan said the recommendations from the summit would be submitted to the President for consideration in the drafting of the 2017-2022 PDP.
Cabinet heads expected to attend the summit are Cabinet Secretary LeoncioEvasco, DAR Secretary Rafael Mariano, DENR Secretary Gina Lopez, and DA Secretary Manny Piñol.
Pangulayan said the DAR, DA and DENR would give updates, status of the programs, and plans on the first day of the workshop and present recommendations to the Cabinet Secretary on the second day.
