The International Conference of Islamic Universities, ICIU 2023  organised for the first time by UNISSA in collaboration with the Asian Islamic Universities Association, AIUA carried the theme 'Higher Education Landscape in the 21st Century: Strategies and Vision'. His Majesty the Sultan and the Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam graced the Opening Ceremony of the International Conference of Islamic Universities 2023. The ceremony took place yesterday morning at Indera Samudra Grand Hall, The Empire Brunei. Also in attendance was His Majesty's son, His Royal Highness Prince Doctor Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office as Pro-Chancellor of UNISSA.

His Majesty was greeted upon arrival by Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Doctor Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md. Salleh, Minister of Education; and Doctor Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Rector of UNISSA.

The recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

The reading of Al-Quran verses was presented by Awang Abdul Haziq Syarafuddin bin Abdul Habib, UNISSA undergraduate.

The Rector of UNISSA, among other matters, said that the world's uncertain economic situation and the changing world climate, has made an impact on Islamic studies. He added that UNISSA together with the AIUA member countries have agreed to discuss, share experiences and exchange views in effort to carry out the transformation process of Islamic education at the higher education level so that it can shape a balance student for the perpetuity of future ummah development.

The importance of science to uphold Allah's law in human life was touched upon in the premier paper presentation by the State Mufti.

Doa Selamat was read by the State Mufti.
