Worst Sleeping Habits Revealed As Room Temperature Feuds Drive Couples To Split

Some admit they've broken up with a partner over bedtime gripes (Stock Photo) (Image: Getty Images | Stockphoto)

ENGLAND

From snoring to arguments over temperature, bedtime can be far from relaxing for some couples, and a new survey shows just how serious of an impact these nocturnal gripes can have.

Indeed, one-third (33 per cent) of couples in the UK confessed their sexual intimacy had been affected by bedtime habits, while one in 10 admitted they'd even broken up with their other half over such issues.

This is as per mattress and bed company Mattress Online, which surveyed 5,000 people across Britain to find out the most common grievances, and the impact they were having.

A full 29.5 per cent of those surveyed revealed bedtime habits had led to significant arguments and disagreements, while 27.5 per cent had even felt forced to sleep in another bed entirely.

The most common nuisance was disagreements over temperature (24.3 per cent), followed by eating in bed (23.7 per cent), and loud snoring (17.6 per cent).

Sleepwalking or sleep talking (7.5 per cent), and the instance on either complete darkness or silence (6.9 per cent), came in at fourth and fifth place respectively.

For many couples, this has meant making changes. For example, Luana Ribeira has been sleeping in a separate bed from her partner for five years, and vows they'll "never go back to sharing".

Luana explained: "We sleep much better alone. If we have a bad night's sleep, we can't blame the other for snoring or shuffling around. Likewise, there's no issue if one of us wants to go to bed later or get up earlier than the other, and we can spread out as much as we want!

"We both work from home, we have our own space if we want to be alone or need peace to focus on work. We enjoy spending time together in the evening then saying goodnight and going to our separate rooms to relax before bed. We get excited about seeing each other in the morning."
