1st Government-Governors Meeting Held

VIENTIANE
(KPL) The first Government-Governors Meeting was held in Vientiane on Jul 4-6. Chaired by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, the meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Ministers, members of the government, provincial governors, representatives of Party and government offices equivalent to ministry level, Lao Front for National Development, legislative and judicial bodies, Lao Veterans Federation, Mass Organisations, State Inspection Organisation, and State Audit Organisation.
Discussion was focused on the review of the government performance over the past six months including the implementation of the national socio-economic development plan, state budget plan and monetary plan, progress in improving investment environment and the modernization of revenue collection, the addressing of inflation, school dropouts and teacher shortage, and dry season production as well as land management and development.
The government urged relevant authorities to accelerate land title issuance and impose strict measures against those violating land-related laws, pay attention to forest land management to ensure forest coverage reaches 70% of land areas, take into account illegal deforestation, and pay attention to Laos’ comprehensive preparation for hosting ASEAN Summit 2024 and the launch of Visit Laos Year 2024.
As for addressing teacher shortage, the government has urged relevant sectors to draft a resolution and have it adopted as a legal document by the second week of July 2023.
Government efforts for the next six months will be focused on stabilizing economy and financial sector, fulfilling priorities of the national socio-economic development plan, state budget plan and monetary plan, and promoting thrifty and anti-extravagance lifestyle.
