VIENTIANE

(KPL) Minister of Health Bounfeng Phoummalaysith introduced this morning a new draft law on public health to the ongoing 5th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly’s 9th legislature for its consideration of approval.

The legislation with 11 parts and 60 articles aims to make local healthcare services effective, and increase ethical and moral standards of medical workers.

Ms Khankab Xayakoumman, a member of the National Assembly for Xaysomboun provincial constituency called on the government to attach attention to addressing poor ethical and moral standards of medical workers, and called on the lawmakers to make sure ethnical and moral standards are clearly defined in the new health law.

Ms Amphaivone Lombounpheng, a member of the National Assembly for Huaphan provincial constituency asked the government to attach attention to addressing issues related to the management of incomes from providing medical services to patients by public hospitals.

The lawmaker said that once approved by the National Assembly, the law will be a reference for healthcare sector, promote the rule of law, and enable the health sector to better contribute to the national socio-economic development.

“This law will make medical workers at public and private health facilities perform their professional duties in a more standardized manner,” said Dr Bounfeng.
