President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. got a majority positive performance rating ahead of his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 24, findings of a big data research firm's nationwide survey showed.

Marcos’ positive performance rating after a year in office, according to the Tangere survey released on Friday, July 14, with 1,800 respondents, was highly driven by his known “bailiwick and supporters”, with the conversion of non-supporters still needed.

“Most Filipinos are highly concerned with the country’s economy – specifically, the upcoming SONA must be able to directly tackle top concerns of inflation/rising prices, poverty alleviation, job generation, and increase of livable wages,” the pollster said.

It added that these concerns point toward Filipinos’ purchasing power, especially with basic needs such as food, transportation, and utilities.

It also mentioned that those who rated Marcos poorly for his performance in the past year are likely to point to economic issues, such as inflation, as their concerns that they want to be tackled in the SONA.

“PBBM must then show firm resolve and discuss concrete actions to alleviate Filipinos’ economic burden to convert those currently dissatisfied with his performance as president,” Tangere stated.

The survey was conducted from July 6 to 8 with survey respondents proportionately representing the following areas nationwide with 12 percent from Metro Manila, 23 percent from Northern Luzon, 22 percent from Southern Luzon, 20 percent from Visayas, and 23 percent from Mindanao.
