Responding to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's decision to name the leader of his volunteer group as the new information and telecommunications minister, secretary-general of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Hasto Kristiyanto said his party would respect that decision.

Hasto said Cabinet appointments were the President's prerogative and that he believed that the appointment had gone through proper deliberation on the President's part.

"It is a prerogative of the President and we have to respect that," Hasto told reporters on Monday evening.
