18th National Youth Day Celebration

​The culmination of the 18th National Youth Day celebration was the presentation of the National Youth Day Awards namely the Excellent Youth Award; Youth Service Award; Young Youth Leader Award; and the Excellent Project Award For Youth. This year, a Special Mention Award was given as recognition to youths who provide services, elevate and fight for youths especially the differently-abled in the country. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam presented the awards.

 

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports; and Dato Seri Paduka Awang Mohammed Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohammed Yunos, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.

 

 

Also present were His Majesty's sons and brothers:

 

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office;

 

- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik;

 

- His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah;

 

- And His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.

 

 

 

The ceremony commenced with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

 

In a welcoming speech, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports as Chairman of the celebration's executive committee underlined that in order to develop the youth's potential, a Whole of Nation approach is highly significant towards contributing to the vision and goals of the National Youth Policy and Strategy 2020-2035.

 

The reading of the Youth Pledge involved 60 youths from various fields, led by Pengiran Haji Amirul Aiman bin Pengiran Haji Marjuki, this year's Qari champion of the National Musabaqah Al-Quran Reading for Adults.

 

An oratory performance on the youth's aspiration and 'Bepirawis' youth was delivered by Awang Muhammad Iqbal Syakib bin Haji Syuib, graduate from the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA.

 

His Majesty then presented the National Youth Day Awards 2023. The Excellent Youth Award went to Doctor Awang Andery Lim, Education Officer at the Science Technology Environment Partnership (STEP) Centre, Ministry of Education. He received a trophy, 'kain Jong Sarat Bunga Bintang Gemilang,' Certificate of Appreciation and $3,000 cash.

 

Meanwhile, Awang Mohammad Ashmeer bin Imtiaz Ahmad, a volunteer under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and core member of the Young Professionals Network Brunei was awarded the Youth Service Award. He received a trophy, 'kain betabur bunga Permata Bangsa', Certificate of Appreciation and $3,000 cash.

 

Awang Mohammad Arif bin Abdul Hadi, Coordinating Officer of the Uniforms and Community Services Unit, Co-Curriculum Education Department, Ministry of Education was presented the Young Youth Leader Award. He also received a trophy; 'kain Jong Sarat Bunga Kebahagiaan,' Certificate of Appreciation and cash amounting 3 thousand dollars.

 

The Excellent Project Award For Youth went to the Seacage Fish Farming Project by Fatih Aquaculture, and Child Care Centre, Alya Playhouse. The recipients received a trophy, Certificate of Appreciation and $3,500 cash.

 

The Special Mention Award was presented to Dayang Nurul Huda binti Haji Muhin, Head of Administration of Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajah Maryam. She received a trophy, Certificate of Appreciation and $2,000 cash.

 

The celebration's theme 'Belia Siaga Masa Depan' was inline with the aspirations of His Majesty who wishes to see the nation's youth prepare to face future challenges.
