State Polls: Perikatan Did Nothing To Resolve Hardcore Poverty, Says Anwar

ALOR SETAR

Instead of resolving hardcore poverty, Perikatan Nasional only knew how to amass wealth when they were in power, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic).

The Prime Minister said it was unfitting for Perikatan leaders to criticise the Madani government pledge to weed out extreme poverty nationwide after they themselves failed to do so while being the government for 33 months.

"As a government, among the first measures we took was to attempt to put a stop on hardcore poverty.

"We know the number of general poverty cases is still high but we are focusing first on those who could not buy formula milk and school uniforms for their children," he said in his speech during Segalanya Felda Carnival at Felda Teloi Timur here on Friday (August 4).

He slammed Opposition leaders for not knowing that their own supporters could not buy basic items like formula milk but keep busy by building big houses, land grabbing and taking rare earth.

Without naming who the leader he is referring to, Anwar said it was unbecoming for Perikatan leaders to criticise the current government as it is out to do everything they can to help the people.

Some 3,000 villagers attended the carnival at Felda Teloi Timor.
