Five wooden houses, two Proton Saga cars and a motorcycle were destroyed in a fire at Kampung Sembulan Lama in Sembulan here yesterday.

The fire was believed to have started from one of the affected houses and had spread quickly due to strong wind around 2pm.

State Fire and Rescue Services Department public relations officer Superintendent Mohd Affendy Ramin said 36 fire-fighters from Sembulan, Lintas and Penampang were deployed to the scene in seven fire engines upon receiving a distress call at 2.10pm.

“The first fire engine arrived at the scene at 2.13pm followed by six fire engines from Sembulan, Lintas and Penampang. Fire-fighters managed to control the fire from spreading to other houses by 2.25pm.

“No untoward incident was reported while the operation ended at 4.34pm,” he said yesterday, adding that investigation is still being carried out to determine the cause of the fire and total losses.
