Minister Attend 9th Canang Citra Budaya Competition

Haji Zul Azmi bin Haji Mohin was crowned Champion at the 9th Canang Citra Budaya competition, held last night at the Raya Hall of Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB).

 


Presenting the award and a cash prize of B$1,500 to the winner was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, in his capacity as the guest of honour.

 

Coming in as first and second runner-ups were Pengiran Md Fauzie bin Pengiran Zainal Abidin and Haji Muhd Ubaidah bin Haji Damit.

 

In his welcoming speech, the minister highlighted the importance of preserving traditional songs as well as promoting them in the community, especially among the youth.

 

Ten singers were selected for the final round, out of the 19 between the ages of 18 and 35 competed in the initial round of the competition.

 

The event was held as part of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports' initiative to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of Brunei, especially traditional melodies and songs.

 

organised in collaboration with RTB, the competition aimed at reviving and preserving Bruneian traditional music.

 

Witnessing the competition were members of the foreign diplomatic corps; Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dato Paduka Dr Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, and Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil; Permanent Secretary (Media and Cabinet) at the Prime Minister's Office Mohamed Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohamed Yunos; Officers of the Ministry of Culture, youth and Sports as well as members of the public.
