Opening Ceremony Of The 43rd ASEAN Summit

JAKARTA
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah stresses that ASEAN needs to remain focused on strengthening cooperation to make ASEAN the centre of economic growth and social development behind the escalating geopolitical tensions pose potential risks to economic recovery. To this end, His Majesty underscores the need to embrace new ideas that contribute to the long-term competitiveness and resilience within the region. His Majesty made the titah during the Plenary Session of the 43rd ASEAN Summit held in Jakarta Convention Centre, the Republic of Indonesia. His Majesty first attended the Opening Ceremony of the 43rd ASEAN Summit, which was also attended by other ASEAN Heads of State and Government as well as the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, the People's Republic of Bangladesh and Cook Islands. Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen. The arrival of His Majesty was welcomed by His Excellency Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia and spouse, Ibu Hajah Iriana Widodo.
The ceremony commenced with the ASEAN anthem, “The ASEAN Way", followed by Opening Remarks from His Excellency the President of the Republic of Indonesia who welcomed all leaders and delegates attending the 43rd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Jakarta. A presentation ceremony for the ASEAN Prize was also held where Awang Haji Muhammad Iqbal Fakhri bin Haji Damit of Brunei Darussalam received the ASEAN Prize 2022. Meanwhile, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Minh of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, the recipient of the ASEAN Prize 2023. During the Ceremony, the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Transboundary Haze Pollution Control was launched.
His Majesty's attendance to the ASEAN Summits in Jakarta this year, among other things, demonstrates His Majesty's close friendship with the other leaders. It also provides an excellent opportunity to continue discussions on advancing ASEAN community building efforts, as well as strengthen cooperation with ASEAN's Dialogue Partners. For the ASEAN Prize 2022, Haji Muhammad Iqbal Fakhri bin Haji Damit of Brunei Darussalam received the award for his active leadership in youth movement and volunteerism especially in mobilising assistance for displaced persons, and fostering the spirit of the people-oriented and resilient ASEAN Community.
