PETALING JAYA: Although Muda has quit the unity government, it will continue to support it in matters such as institutional reforms, which require a two-thirds majority vote in the Dewan Rakyat.

Muda said among the main reasons for its decision to pull out of the unity government to be a "third force" was the discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) granted to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on graft charges.

“The decision of the Attorney General, who has released without acquitting Ahmad Zahid of 47 charges without a convincing explanation, has raised many questions among the people.

“This goes against the principles of the Madani government in fighting corruption,” Muda said in a statement Sunday (Sept 10).

The party said that Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul had been informed of the decision in an official letter from Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Muda said that following the decision on Ahmad Zahid’s case, the party said it believed that the country's legal institutions had been corrupted and the unity government seemed to be normalising the culture of corruption.

Muda added that some decisions made by the government recently were contrary to the party’s principles and values.

Muda also panned the unity government for not fulfilling reforms promised before the 15th General Election.

“Many promises of reforms before the election have been ignored by giving the excuse that this government is a new government.

"However, Muda will remain committed to supporting the government's efforts in progressive national development agenda that require a two-thirds (majority) vote in the Dewan Rakyat such as on institutional reforms although Muda is in the Opposition bloc as the third force," said the party.
