MANILA

The Department of Agriculture (DA) said the priciest retail price of rice that can be purchased in Metro Manila markets is P65 per kilo.

Based on DA’s price monitoring, the retail prices of imported and local rice as of Sept. 12 range from P41 to P65 in the metropolis.

It is worth noting that the cheapest rice price of P41 per kilo is because of the nationwide price cap being implemented by the government.

The most expensive rice in the metropolis is Imported Special which is retailed for P53 to P65 per kilo, the data of the agriculture department showed.

Meanwhile, the cheapest rice in Metro Manila is Local Regular Milled whose retail price is P41 to P45 per kolo.

Imported Regular Milled rice remains unavailable in the market, the DA noted.

The agriculture department’s price monitoring in the metropolis covered Commonwealth, Guadalupe, Las Piñas, Malabon, Marikina, Mega Q-Mart, Muntinlupa, Muñoz, Pasay, Pasig, Pritil, Quinta, and San Andres.

Earlier, President Marcos, who concurrently heads the DA, approved the recommendation to impose a rice price cap in the country. Through EO No. 39, the mandated price ceiling for regular milled rice is P41 per kilo, while it is P45 per kilo of well-milled rice.

To recall, Marcos said during his campaign that he was aspiring to bring down the price of rice to P20 per kilo.
