The 2016 dodgeball season kicked off with the two-day GreenCity WondeRing Dodgeball Tournament 2016 held at the Sungai Kebun Sports Complex last weekend.

Ten female teams and 14 male teams participated in the tournament, according to a press release.

The male team champion was Team Hydra's Crusader, while the first runner-up went to Team Ravens and second runner-up to Team Eagles. Team Target became the female team champion while Team Arrows became the first runner-up, with the second runner-up going to Team Xco Dodgettes.

The participation of Team Hydra's Crusader, which is made up of former national players from Malaysia, benefitted local teams by gaining experience through playing with one of the best teams in the world.

Every tournament organised or sanctioned by GreenCity Concept Sendirian Berhad - the company that brought the sport to Brunei in 2013 - will count towards the accumulation of points used in teams' standing in the Brunei Darussalam dodgeball season.

The top eight teams by the end of the season - by December 31 this year - will earn the right to play in the GreenCity Cup 2016. Two categories, male and female, will be organised for the championship which will be held in early 2017. The champion will walk away with the coveted trophy and cash prizes.

The season will prepare Bruneian players for the dodgeball World Cup in 2017.
