There were 224 voyeurism cases in the first half of this year, almost on par with the same period last year.

SINGAPORE

While the number of voyeurism cases that happened on public transport in the first half of 2023 dropped by a third from the same period last year, voyeurism continues to be a crime of concern, said the Singapore Police Force (SPF) on Friday (Sept 15).

The authorities also flagged molestation, shop theft and theft in dwellings as other crimes of concern, while noting that cases of physical crime have risen slightly.

There were 10,080 cases of physical crime reported from January to June this year, up from 9,568 in the same period last year. This remains lower than pre-pandemic levels.

However, the police are concerned about crime returning to what it was like before Covid-19 struck in 2020, said Superintendent of Police Rudy Dzulkarnaen, assistant director of the crime control division.

Statistics for scam and cybercrime cases in Singapore were released separately on Wednesday, as rising scam numbers have overtaken many other types of physical crime and skewed the overall crime indicator.

Fraud victims were cheated of S$334.5 million in the first half of 2023, a slight dip from the same period in 2022. However, the number of cases has continued to rise.
