Lao people and expatriates are invited to enjoy the Vang Vieng Music Fest 2016, which will be held on December 16-17.

“The Vang Vieng Music Fest 2016 aims to promote tourism and attract more tourists to visit Vang Vieng, the Managing Director of Smart Event Organisers and Indee Records, Mr Anouluck Pathammavong told at a press conference held in Vientiane Capital on Nov 8.

Tickets will soon be available for 70,000 kip and purchasers will be eligible to receive a tent to use from the organizing committee. 

He said that many well-known bands and vocalists from both Laos and neighboring countries have been invited to the stage such as Labanoon and Big Ass and DJs from US, the Philippines, Italy and the United Kingdom.

“Last year was the first time the festival was held and saw an audience of about 40,000 joining the event.  Both local and foreign visitors were among the crowd, though the bulk of attendees were from Vientiane,” he said.

The music festival is a new strategy that tourism officials are employing to increase the number of visitors to the town. Tourism in Vang Vieng decreased over the last several years, so new and innovative methods are now being used to attract visitors.

The official added that they are cooperating with the police and military to station over 100 persons on security detail to insure the festival is safe and orderly.

He stressed that this year will be different from 2015 because of a new and improved sound system designed for larger crowds and a more internationally sourced roster of artists.

The festival was organized by Smart Event Organisers and Indee Records, in cooperation with the authorities of Vang Vieng district.
