Liverpool are one of a host of clubs who are monitoring the situation of FC Rostov forward Sardar Azmoun, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said last week that he may be forced to dip into the transfer market due to Danny Ings' season-ending injury and Sadio Mane's absence at the African Nations Cup in the New Year.
Liverpool could make a move for the highly rated Iranian in January but, as it currently stands, have made no offer for the 21-year-old.
A source has told ESPN FC that depending on the role in store for him at Anfield, Azmoun would be keen on a move to Liverpool.
Azmoun has made 15 appearances for Rostov this season since his controversial move from Rubin Kazan in the summer.
ESPN FC's Craig Burley and Steve Nicol have revealed their Top 5 Premier League players, but did they omit anybody?
Azmoun spent a period of time on loan at Rostov before they triggered a buy-out clause that Kazan claimed did not exist. The case went to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, who ruled in favour of Rostov and Azmoun.
The Iran international has made eight appearances for the Rostov in all rounds Champions League this season, scoring three goals.
Speaking in February 2015, Azmoun expressed a desire to play in England at some point in the future.
He said: "My main goal is to play in Premier League, and I've taken a lot of good advice to stay in Russia to gain more experience."
