In thousands of blind taste tests, carried out by Cambridge Market Research, 100s of Asda products proved as tasty, or tastier than M&S.
From zesty Lemon Drizzle Cake to French Camembert, and even Crumpets, taste testers deemed the more wallet-friendly products to be just as tasty – if not tastier than – the M&S equivalents.
But you want to know just which products were deemed so tasty, don’t you? We hope you’re hungry…
Starting things off is the Asda Extra Special Lemon Drizzle Cake (435g, £2), a treat that over half the testers said was as tasty, or tastier than, the Lemon Drizzle Cake from M&S (470g, £3.65).
The Sicilian lemon soak-infused sponge and lemon curd filling goes perfectly with a cup of coffee or tea* at any time of day – just saying.
Next, would you believe over half the taste testers said Asda French Camembert (250g, £2) was as tasty, or tastier than, the Camembert from M&S (250g, £2.90)?
It’s just begging to be baked in the oven and we suggest combining the camembert’s melt-in-the-mouth creaminess with the citrussy tang of Asda Extra Special Seville Orange Breakfast Marmalade, which also proved to be as tasty as – you’ve guessed it – M&S’ Seville Orange Marmalade. And don’t forget some crusty bread for dipping!*
In need of some simple supper inspiration? How about pan-frying some delicately flavoured Seabass Fillets?
After all, over half of the testers found Asda Delicate 2 Sea Bass Fillets (180g, £3.50) to be tastier than the Mediterranean Skin On & Boneless 2 Sea Bass Fillets from M&S (180g, £5).
Team them with potatoes and herby lemon* for a light and delicious weeknight feast!
Not forgetting a crisp glass of White Wine. Asda Tukituki Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc (75cl, £8) is the perfect accompaniment
More than half the testers said it was as tasty, or tastier than M&S’ Classics No. 39 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc (75cl, £10).
Or how about enjoying a glass with a gorgeous grazing board?
Pile it high with Asda nibbles also voted as tasty, or tastier than, equivalent products from M&S.
We’re thinking Asda Extra Special Mammoth Nocellara Olives, cured and air-dried Serrano Ham, some Spanish style Chorizo, slices of Gouda and a handful of Sea Salt & Pepper Cashews.
Back to the bakery and Asda Extra Special Sourdough Crumpets (6pk, £1) should be the next thing on your shopping list.
The majority of testers deemed them to be tastier than the Ultimate Crumpets Made with Sourdough from M&S (6 pk, £1.50).
Serve with Asda Apricot Jam and a side of crispy bacon and you’ve got yourself a breakfast of champions.
