Muslims are urged to ensure that their work does not conflict with Islam and the rules or laws in the country. This includes when performing duties as an employee in either the public sector or the private sector, whether holding a high position or otherwise. The Friday Sermon touched upon 'Do Not Betray the Trust You Are Accountable For.' The Friday sermon also emphasised the role of the citizens who are concerned on the well-being and welfare of the community as well as for the sake of the country.
Responsibilities as a public servant include ensuring that there is no tolerance or compromise against the crime of abuse of power. The Imam or Prayer Leader reminded that abuse of power is an act that is prohibited in our religion. From a legal perspective, abuse of power is a criminal offence. Among the offences related to misuse of power are corruption and breach of trust. The people who commit such crime of abuse of power are selfish people. Abuse of power is also considered a cruel act. From a public service perspective, civil servants who abuse their power may affect public trust and leaves a bad impact on the country. This is because civil servants should use the power and trust that has been entrusted to them to carry out their duties and provide services fairly and not take advantage.
