An eight-year-old girl underwent emergency surgery after she swallowed a Cadbury’s chocolate wrapper.
The youngster, who was suffering with pneumonia and a dry cough, had left medics baffled after a CT scan and antibiotics failed to find the source of her symptoms.
But a bronchoscopy at Aakash Hospital, in Delhi, India, revealed the cause of the issue – a toffee wrapper lodged just above her lungs.
The girl claimed she couldn’t remember swallowing the wrapper – but said it may have happened while she was lying down eating some chocolate.
Dr. Akshay Buddharaja, a doctor at the Aakash Hospital, said pneumonia symptoms often occur if a foreign body is breathed in.
Doctors performed argon plasma coagulation – a procedure in which an endoscopic camera is used – to remove the wrapper.
After it was taken out, the youngsters symptoms began to improve – and is now sad to be ‘completely fine’.
In another bizarre case, one woman shared how she became mute for 12 years after swallowing a coin.
Marie McCreadie was mute until the age of 25, when she began coughing and bleeding from her mouth.
On arrival at the hospital, the doctors removed a red lump covered with mucus and blood. When they rinsed it off, they found a threepence coin.
