A local male was apprehended for being involved in the illegal sale of medicines including abortion pills which are not registered with the Brunei Darussalam Medicines Control Authority. The action was taken by the Ministry of Health through the Department of Pharmaceutical Services following an operation with the Royal Customs and Excise Department after a public tip-off, on the selling of medicines via online platforms.
The suspect was intercepted while in the midst of conducting a sale to his customer at a shopping centre. The enforcement officers then proceeded to inspect the suspect's house and the operation resulted in the seizure of 8 different types of medicines. The operation also found that the suspect did not have a licence to import the medicines under the Medicines Order, 2007. A compound fine amounting 2 Thousand Dollars was issued to the offender. The public are advised to always be vigilant when purchasing health products with excessive promotions on social media and ensure that the products are approved by the relevant authorities in the country.
