Some 600 people attended the first session of the Science Showoffs conducted by Dr. Graham Walker yesterday.

Organised by the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), the event gave teachers and parents the opportunity to observe a series of interesting science experiments conducted by the scientist himself.

Dr. Graham presented with full enthusiasm the science behind each demonstration to the curious and eager audience.

One of the experiments, the Exploding Can, showed that fuel and oxygen mix when heated up, which creates high pressure, hence pushing the can's lid off.

In a press statement, OGDC said the event was one of its initiatives to promote greater understanding as well as to increase interest, capability and participation by Bruneians in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The science show will be held again on Friday at the Lecture Theatre 2 of UTB.
