A woman was left feeling 'absolutely gutted' after discovering that her miniature poodle, Peggy, had eaten all of the money she'd been saving for a rainy day
Where would we be without our furry best friends? They can be incredibly cute, but there's no arguing that sometimes they do the most unhelpful and downright disruptive things.
From running around on your carpet with their mucky paws to chewing your favourite shoe, they can often wreak havoc.
One dog mum was used to her pooch causing chaos at home, as her miniature poodle Peggy tends to chew whatever she can find. But the pup took her antics to a whole new level back in 2020 when she devoured around £100 of her owner's savings.
The little dog somehow managed to get into the pot on the side of Jocelyn Horne's bed, where she had been putting money away for a rainy day and proceeded to eat all of the notes she found in there.
Upon arriving home from work, mum Jocelyn thought her partner Allan was playing a prank on her when he told her about the money. But after discovering a ripped £20 note in her room, she started to wonder if the story was true.
The next morning she no longer needed to wonder where the rest of her money had gone, as Peggy was sick on the kitchen floor, throwing up the remains of the cash. The then-35-year-old from the Isle of Man was left feeling "absolutely gutted" when she realised what had happened.
She said: "Peggy wants to chew everything and anything that hits the floor - I'm always picking up after her. I keep my bedroom door closed because of her and I came in and could just see a single piece of £20 on my bed. I searched high and low, couldn't find anything else and thought there's no way she's eaten £100 - she couldn't have. I actually thought it was my boyfriend playing a joke on me as he kept laughing."
Jocelyn was hopeful that she might be able to find the serial numbers on the pieces of notes from the dog's vomit - but unfortunately she wasn't able to. "I thought I'd wash them to see if I can get the serial numbers because then you can possibly get your money back, but she'd just thrown up parts of each note as if to really take the mickey.
"There was no hope of getting the serial numbers for the cash - not unless I wanted to go through what came out of her back end and I won't be doing that. I didn't find it funny at the time - it was £100, I was absolutely gutted. I still don't know whether to laugh or cry - I look at her and I think I bloody love you, but you've swallowed £100."
