A woman went to get a henna tattoo portrait on her hand to honour her dog Millie - but was left gobsmacked by the 'ridiculous' design which the artist is 'super proud' of

A woman has left people in stitches after sharing her "ridiculous" henna tattoo fail.

Dog owner, Madi, decided she wanted to honour her Toy Poodle Havanese name Millie in a sweet way - with a special henna tattoo capturing her. She showed a henna artist a picture of her dog and asked her to base her design on the image. But, the fun idea went horribly wrong when Madi saw the results - she was not impressed.

Some said the artwork looks like it was completed "by a 10-year-old" and others said the woman should be "glad it's only temporary". Madi explained on Reddit's ExpectiationVsReality page that the artist said she was "great at pet portraits" which is why she chose her to do the temporary tattoo. Despite her disappointment, the artist was reportedly "super proud" of the portrait of Millie.

An hour after fleeing the tattoo parlour Madi rushed to wash off the design, which was covering her entire hands and one of her fingers - but it wouldn't budge. Madi said: "Henna artist said she was great at pet portraits, and this is what I got. Washed it within an hour and it still stained. She [the artist] was super proud of it!"

Madi, who got the design for free, added that the henna artist was so proud that she posted it on her Instagram page. Madi commented: "I still acted like I liked it because it isn't permanent, and didn't want to hurt her feelings, but her confidence was wild – how she was absolutely convinced she's great at it!

"I just smiled with an open mouth in astonishment and said 'Oh wow, thank you!' That's how I handle awkward situations.

"Her confidence was wild like how she was absolutely convinced she's great at it," the baffled woman added. After sharing what happened online thousands reacted to the pet portrait. "I almost love how ridiculous it is", said one.

One other wrote: "I cannot stop laughing, that's by far the best f*** up I have seen in some time." A third commented: "That henna portrait is terrible." Another wrote: "This is laughably bad! At least you didn't have to pay."

"This is so funny - I'm glad it's only temporary," said another. Others were kind enough to offer advice One person suggested Madi could use rock salt to try and lighten the stain. The Redditor replied: "I'll try that! I've done a bunch of scrubs, teeth whitening toothpaste, baking soda with lemon etc."

It is unknown how long it took Madi to eventually scrub off the "laughably bad" design.
