Muslims usually visited the cemetery after performing the Sunat Aidilfitri prayer. Visiting the cemetery is a religious deed that is highly encouraged by Islam as one of the ways to remember death and those who have passed away.

Families have gathered at cemeteries as early as 9 in the morning to visit their departed loved ones. The practice of visiting the cemetery can lessen one's longing towards those who passed away, while the reading of Surah Yasin, Tahlil and Doa can help to seek forgiveness for the departed.

Residents in Temburong District also visited cemeteries on the first of Syawal, as such practice has its own blessings.
