Fasting six days of Syawal after Ramadhan is a Sunnah that promises abundant rewards and virtues. In an interview with RTB, Doctor Haji Noralizam bin Haji Ali Akhbar, Director of Core Knowledge Centre at the Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan, KUPU-SB said it is encouraged for Muslims to fast the six days in Syawal consecutively. However, if someone is unable to do so, it is still valid to fast gradually for as long as it is observed within the month of Syawal.

Whoever breaks his fast in Ramadhan without valid reasons stated by syarak is obligated to replace it immediately after the first day of Syawal. He cannot prioritise the six sunnah syawal fasting over his qadha fasting. However, if someone does not fast in Ramadhan due to valid reasons as permitted by syarak, then it is permissible for him to prioritise the six days of sunnah syawal fasting over his qadha fasting.

Apart from reaping rewards and blessings to the Almighty, fasting of six days of Syawal is a sign of devotion to the prophet's Sunnah as the prophet himself performed Puasa Enam during Syawal and advised the ummah to do so. By following the Prophet's Sunnah, we can bring ourselves closer to Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala and increase awareness of the teachings of Islam.
