BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The Sultan Omar 'Ali Saifuddien (SOAS) College celebrated 43 of its Years 9 to 11 and Pra-Voc students for their academic achievements in a prize presentation ceremony that was held yesterday at the school's auditorium hall.

The event's guest of honour who presented the students with their certificates was the Principal of SOAS College, Zamain bin Abdul. The ceremony began with performances of national anthem and school anthem as well as a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah. This was followed by welcoming remarks from the guest of honour, who then proceeded to present the certificates to recipients.

For Years 9 to 11, the awards were split into three categories - Best in Class, Best in Subject and Best Overall.

The Best Overall award for Year 11 was won by Mohammad Zahin Habri bin Mohammad Arman from the 11Adv A class. For Year 10, the same award was presented to Muhammad Hafiz bin Abdul Aziz from 10Adv A and for Year 9, it went to Muhammad Abdul Qabidh bin Haji Awang Alwi from 9Scil.

Students who completed their Pra-Voc Year 11, meanwhile, were Md Fahmi bin Sapar and Md Syahmi bin Haji Jumat.

In an interview with young award winner Mohammad Zahin Habri, he shared that, in order to achieve good results, a student should understand what is being taught and not be shy to ask questions when there is some confusion in the lesson.

He added that he often revised subjects and completed tasks given by the teacher in atimely manner.
Meanwhile, Deputy Principal (Academic) Md Santra bin Bolhassan said that the students' resulting achievements have made the college proud.

"The awards they received were based on the end-of-year examinations, whereas for Year 11 students, it was based on their qualifying exams," he said.

He added that to achieve the school's target, several academic programmes have also been introduced for Year 11, one of them being the 'Excellerator Programme', through which students were divided according to subjects and received tutoring where needed.
