Brunei High Comm Pay a Visit to Swansea University

SWANSEA, WALES

Strong links between Swansea University and Brunei Darussalam were given another boost recently when the university welcomed High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland
Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin and his delegation on a visit to campus.

The delegation was receivedby the head of Swansea University, Vice Chancellor Professor Richard B Davies, according to a press release.

They visited the university's Energy Safety Research Institute, which focuses on safety issues surrounding the development and expansion of existing energy processes, as well as the safe deployment and integration of new 'green' energy technologies.

They also toured the university's Medical School, which is in the UK Top 10, and which is ranked first for research environment.

As well as meeting all the senior figures from the university, including the registrar and heads of colleges, the delegation also spent time with some of the 24 Brunei students currently studying at Swansea University. They also visited the campus mosque for noon prayers.

The Brunei delegation included officials from the high commission.

The visit builds on existing links between Swansea University and Brunei. In May 2016, Senior Pro Vice Chancellor Iwan Davies visited Brunei and top officials in the Sultanate.

One proposal currently being discussed by senior figures in Swansea and Brunei is for collaboration between Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Swansea University on extending the work of the Energy Safety
Research Institute.

This and other possible ventures show that links between Brunei and Swansea University look likely to be made even stronger in the future, according to the press release.
