The Minister of Religious Affair, assured that companies tasked with the facilitation of Haj packages have been advised to reconsider their offered packages following revelations that there are countries within the region that offer Haj package prices at more competitive rates.
Speaking at the Legislative Council Meeting yesterday, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman explained that the ministry has urged such companies to 'take initiatives' to make such packages more affordable and to reduce prices to below $10,000.
The reason behind the high prices compared to Haj packages in the region as pointed by members of the public is the consideration of hotel locations that are not only closer to main sites of worship but are also comfortable.
"Our packages are premium packages," explained the minister, "but when compared to other premium packages in other countries our prices are still competitive."
Addressing another matter raised during the meeting as to whether the male children of government servants who are eligible to receive Haj allowances but are ailed and unable to make the pilgrimage journey, the minister explained that such cases can be brought to the Haj Affairs Department for review.
