The 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' musical captivated audiences last night, with colourful characters brought to life to the accompaniment of classic song numbers, at the Jerudong International School ( JIS) Arts Centre.
Adapted from the children's novel, 'Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang: The Magical Car', by James Bond creator, Ian Fleming, the stage musical is the story of Commander Caractacus Pott, an inventor who constructs the 'Paragon Panther', a car that can take flight and travel on water. The inventor and his two children, Jeremy and Jemima, then go on an adventure in the powerful car in search of his father, Grandpa Potts.
The on-stage adaptation features elements from the musical, and song numbers such as 'Me 01' Bamboo', `P.O.S.H.' and the ever-popular 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!' taken from the 1968 MGM motion picture of the same title.
The evening's cast saw William Brien as Caractacus Potts; Florence Holmes as Truly Scrumptious, Luke Conway as Jeremy Potts, Grace Shakeshaft as Jemima Potts and Charles Duru as Grandpa Potts.
The JIS Arts Centre will be showing the `Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' musical again today at 7.45pm (doors open at 7.30pm) and on tomorrow at 2pm (doors open at 1.45pm).
Participating in the stage performance were 143 students and 128 staff members of JIS. With only 10 weeks to spare, the costumes, props, orchestra, stage management and crew, as well as set design and construction were all prepared with the help of the students and staff members.
