BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Chung Hwa Middle School (CHMS) girls basketball team yesterday clinched a spot in the final of the National Basketball Inter-Schools Tournament.

They maintained their impressive undefeated run after a convincing 32-13 win over St Andrew's school in the semifinal at Batu Bersurat Basketball Court.

CHMS coach Ang Sak Tiong said he was very happy with their performance so far.

"The team was formed just three months ago.

"We only had a few months of training together, so to stay undefeated is a very good achievement."

He reserved special praise for the team's defence, who excelled in the semifinals, helping to score numerous points breaks.

CHMS go into the final in good foffii, but Ang has reminded the players not to take anything for granted against Maktab Duli.

"Despite a perfect record, we cannot underestimate the opponent in the final. There is still room for improvement, especially in our fitness levels," he said, adding that he hoped for more interschool basketball tournaments.

In the other semifinal, Maktab Duli won a hard fought match against ISB 16-12.

In the boys category, CHMS will tip off against SMS in the semifinal on Monday while Maktab Duli play SOASC in the other semifinal.

CHMS crushed ISB 83-21 in the quarterfinal while Maktab Duli overcame SMJA 38-12.

SOASC beat PTE Meragang 62-37 and SMS defeated SMSA 59-15 for the remaining semifinal spots.

The boys' semifinals will be played from 8am to 9.40am tomorrow followed by the girls' third place match at 1pm and final at 2pm.
