LAOS

(KPL) General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong on Nov 25 accompanied by his Lao counterpart Bounnhang Vorachit and other senior officials of Laos and Vietnam visited the National University of Laos to give guidance talks to its teachers and students.

While delivering his talks to the teachers and students, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highlighted the revolutionary cause of the two Parties of the two countries which has resulted in a number of noticeable achievements as the two countries are currently struggling to shake themselves of economic-social difficulties in the early era of renovation.

He said that the Parties and governments of the two countries have attached importance to provisions of social benefits to their people, and to famine and poverty reduction.

He noted that Laos and Vietnam have recorded constant economic growth at a noticeable pace with people’s livelihoods improving on a daily basis.

He said that today Vietnam has recorded leapfrog advancement and become one of the leading rice exporters in the world.

He expressed his belief that under the guidance of the resolution of the 10th Party Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the National University of Laos will become in the near future a modern university that meets regional and international standards, and record greater achievements in scientific research and human resource development so that it can respond to the requirements of the renovation cause - industrialization and modernization - hence contributing to building Laos as a country of peace, independence, democracy, unity and prosperity in line with its socialist goals.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese General Secretary also presented 30 computer sets to the National University of Laos to help improve its learning and teaching performance.

On the same day, Mr Nguyen Phu Trong and his delegation of high ranking officials also paid a courtesy call to former General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Khamtay Siphandone, laid a wreath at the Monument of Unknown Soldiers to pay respect to those who sacrificed for the national liberation cause of the Lao PDR, visited Kaysone Phomvihane Museum and late President Souphanouvong’s memorial.
