Pray for the future of banana pancakes – because thieves have allegedly targeted the world’s favourite chocolate hazelnut spread.
In a bizarre twist to a story about a luxury car crime ring, thieves apparently made off with a shipping container full of Nutella.
Inside, there was around $30,000 dollars worth of the thick and delicious chocolately goodness. (Just imagine how much of that you could eat with a spoon straight out of the jar.)
The man accused of being ringleader of the heist is Bill Dhaliwal, 60, arrested on suspicion of running a $5million organised crime ring.
He was arrested along with 22 others accused of things ranging from drugs trafficking to possessing a firearm in Canada’s York Region, Ontario.
In total, 60 cars worth around $3.4 million were stolen, including a Lamborghini worth $340,000, police said. ‘The owner was very glad to get that back,’ Det Sgt LaSalle said, according to York Region.
The paper reported that $2,000 was allegedly found buried in Dhaliwal’s back garden.
Exact details of how the Nutella came to be involved, and whether it was intentional, are unclear.
But it has naturally grabbed people’s attention.
Some were worried about the quality of that spread if it was sold on the black market.
‘Street Nutella is more potent….. so I hear,’ one man wrote.
But another said: ‘Yeah but they will just cut it down to Country Crock and sell it as Nutella.’
The case continues.
