The Sayyidina Hasan Secondary School yesterday held its annual ceremony to honour students for their academic achievements in categories such as the Best in Subjects, Best in Class and Top Students.

Certificates for the Pearson BTEC Level 1 and 2 as well as Pre-vocational were also handed out.

Awards were presented by the event's guest of honour, Mohamed Jais bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Head of the School Management and Leadership Division, Department of Schools, Ministry of Education (MoE).

Mohamed Jails shared that the ministry is striving to implement initiatives such as the National Education System for the 215t Century (SPN21) and Secondary Education Initiative (SEMI) to ensure that all students receive quality education.

He further said that various programmes have also been implemented to enhance teaching and learning amd to achieve a 60 per cent rate in obtaining five 'O' Levels and above in 2017.

"Teachers should ensure that the pedagogical aspects or approaches used in classrooms are based on the students' needs, so that they will understand the contents of the subjects," he added.

He also highlighted the important roles played by teachers and parents in ensuring the academic progress of the students.

Furthermore, he touched on students' absenteeism that would have a negative impact on their achievements.

He urged parents and the relevant authorities to work together to encourage the students to attend school, as to receive maximum education and knowledge.
