PSR Results Show Slight Improvement

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has recorded a slight improvement in the results for the Primary School Assessment (PSR) this year, with 68.23 per cent attaining at least Grades A-C in all five subjects in primary schools nationwide, a 1.23 per cent improvement from last year.

 

Some 6,541 candidates sat for the 2016 PSR in government and private schools nationwide this year, said the ministry in a press statement, while also announcing the release of PSR results for candidates yesterday.

 

According to statistics, 3,012 out of 4,665 candidates or 64.57 per cent from government schools, obtained Grades A-C for all subjects, indicating an improvement of 1.69 per cent compared to last year. Eleven schools achieved 100 per cent Grades A-C for all five subjects including eight government schools and three private schools.

 

Fifty-nine government schools and 18 private schools have shown improvement with candidates attaining Grades A-C within the range of 0.27 per cent to 60 per cent. Six schools were recorded to have retained the same level of results compared to 2015.

 

The MoE also said 28 government schools have surpassed the national target of 79 per cent for grades A-C in five subjects.

 

Meanwhile, 12.36 per cent or 809 candidates attained Grade A in all five subjects - 450 of which are from government schools including 182 candidates from Arabic schools. Overall, 713 of those who achieved Grade A for all subjects are Bruneian citizens.

 

The MoE also said that tour subjects have achieved the target of 79 per cent in (;rules A-C, namely Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) at 97.84 per cent, Bahasa Melayu at 93.27 per cent. Science at 91.65 per cent and English Language at 87.54 per cent. Statistics have also indicated a 1.57 per cent improvement in Mathematics compared to last year.

 

In terms of overall quality of national PSR results, the rate of candidates attaining Grade A for MIB is at 61.99 per cent, Malay Language at 44.24 per cent, English Language at 29.12 per cent which is an improvement of 1.30 per cent from the previous year and Mathematics at 23.31 per cent, a 0.67 per cent improvement.

 

The MoE is seeing a marked improvement in those attaining Grade As in the Science subject at 54.88 per cent, a 10.12 per cent improvement from the previous year.

 

The ministry noted that PSR candidates may obtain their result slips from their respective schools and private candidates may obtain them from the Examinations Department during office hours.
