A local man was ordered to pay a fine of $3,000 after he pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court yesterday to being in possession of smuggled cigarettes.
Mustafa bin Zaidin, 51, would have to serve three months' jail if he fails to settle the fine within two months.
The defendant was arrested from home at Kampong Sungai Panga at 3.40pm on November 19, 2015 by Customs preventive officers who raided the place based on information that there was illegal sale of cigarettes.
The officers searched the premises in the defendant's presence and found six cartons and 15 packets of cigarettes with no import permit papers.
Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti 'Haji Abdul Rahman presided over the case.
