"Don't shout at the players and let them enjoy the game. People want to play basketball because they love the game."
This advice came from Zoran Prelevic, FIBA expert in coaching, who is currently in Brunei Darussalam to conduct a basketball coaching clinic from December 1 to 7 at Batu Bersurat Basketball Court.
A total of 34 participants including eight teachers from schools are taking part in the one-week clinic that is aimed at churning out more basketball coaches in the country.
"I will be teaching fundamentals of coaching. Basketball is a beautiful game and coaches should know how to play the game one on one, two on two and then five on five, full court.
"There is no need to be too complicated in coaching. Just enjoy the game." The Serbian added. "The coach must love basketball, love the players.
"The current issue is that every coach thinks that he is Jose Mourinho but Mourinho won't be a big name without big name players. As a coach, we must build and groom the players. Our role as a coach is to identify players who are good."
