His Majesty the King on Friday reappointed Gen Prem Tinsulanonda as the president of the Privy Council after the latter had resigned from the position.
The notice of the appointment by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun was published on Friday in the Royal Gazette.
Pornpetch Wichicholchai, president of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), countersigned the royal command.
Gen Prem, 96, earlier assumed the role as regent after the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej on Oct 13. As the regent cannot concurrently serve as the Privy Council president, Privy Council member Tanin Kraivixien was elected by his peers as the acting president.
Gen Prem's role as the regent ended when His Majesty the King accepted the NLA's invitation to accede to the throne as the 10th King of the Chakri Dynasty on Thursday.
Earlier on Friday, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said that traditionally, Gen Prem would resume his role as Privy Council president just after his role as the regent ended. The term as president of the Privy Council was open-ended, he said.
In principle, a Privy Councillor would leave the position for three reasons: a royal command, death or resignation, Mr Wissanu said.
