A local man was sentenced to jail for 18 months after he pleaded guilty in the Intermediate Court to theft in a dwelling and retaining stolen property.

Mohammad Shahrol bin Harun, 25, stole a 32-inch television from a house at Rumah Kembar, Kampong Rimba, Gadong on the evening of July 29, 2016.

The defendant also retained a stolen bicycle at his house in STKRJ Rimba, Gadong between February 20 and March 29, 2014.

Judge Pengiran Hajah Hanani binti Pengiran Haji Metussain arrived to her decision of an immediate custodial sentence for the defendant to deter others from committing the same offence which has become rampant lately.

DPP Dayangku Didi binti Pengiran Latiff represented the Public Prosecutor in the case.
