BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

A vietnamese man was sentenced to three months jail and three whippings after he pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court yesterday to entering Brunei illegally.

Nguyen Van Huong, 30, told Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid that he  as he wandered off searching  for food and got lost from the camp he had set up with the help of a friend in the Lawas jungle, Limbang, Sarawak to collect Gaharu.

DPP Yvonne Lim's facts of the case revealed that the defendant had been in the jungles of Lawas for quite some time and was trekking into the Brunei border on November 23, 2016 when he stumbled upon the base camp of the RU 'C' Police.

The police searched the defendant and detained him upon finding that he was not holding any valid travel documents.
