Bandar Seri Begawan

A fire broke out at Kampong Lorong Dalam in Kampong Ayer at the Capital today. The thick cloud of smoke can be seen all the way from Bunut and Gadong area.

According to a bystander who is also a witness, she was having her lunch around the Kiulap area when she noticed a black smoke rising up from the Bandar direction. She believed that the fire started around 12.30 noon.

The area was secured by police and traffic officers and the fire brigade came shortly after. Passerbys gathered at the Bandar Waterfront area to witness the tragic incident while sheltering from the downpour. By then, the wind initiated the fire to break out even more.

Boats were made ready on standby around the area to help victims to the land and to transport relatives to help out the victims carry their possessions.

One of the earliest victims who arrived on land only managed to save a few of her possessions.  She believed that she heard a blast from their TV set which could have caused the fire. The causes and number of victims are still unknown.
