Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith on Dec 6 received a courtesy call from Kaarina Immonen, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, on the occasion of her attendance at the annual Roundtable Meeting 2016 which was held from Nov 24-26 in Vientiane Province.

At the amicable talks, Mr Thongloun said that he was pleased with the success of the Roundtable Meeting where participants actively shared views on the content of the meeting which included achievements and challenges of implementing of the 8th five-year national socio-economic development plan (2016-2020), and other urgent activities including the incorporation of sustainable development goals into the national development agenda, the implementation of food security and nutrition activities, preparedness for climate change and green growth, as well as the approval of the Vientiane Declaration on Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation.

Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith expressed gratitude to development partners for their cooperation and assistance to the Lao PDR on the implementation of its socio-economic development plan over recent years and sustainable development goals (SDGs) especially poverty reduction and graduation of the Lao PDR from the list of least developed countries by 2020.

The Prime Minister expressed his hope that development partners would continue to cooperate with the Lao PDR and increase their assistance to the country, especially in its efforts to attract foreign investment and assistance for sectors in the country and other activities.

He asked development partners to work with the Lao government on gender promotion activities, the removal of unexploded ordnance, and strengthening Laos’ competitiveness in the international arena especially under the WTO framework to contribute to the implementation of the 8th five-year national socio-economic development plan and achieve its sustainable development goals through 2030.
