You may have got up this morning thinking it was just another Tuesday. You may even have contemplated not getting up at all.

But, there was a reason you got out of bed this morning. Yes, work. But, most importantly, today is Ben & Jerry’s annual Free Cone Day.

That is, they’re giving away free ice creams today (April 12) from 12pm to 8pm and everyone’s invited. Even your weird uncle, apparently.

Prepare for brain freeze.

The first ever Free Cone Day was held in 1979. It’s was the ice cream company’s way of thanking everyone for all the love and support they received in their first year of business in a renovated petrol station in Burlington, Vermont, USA.

Free Cone Day is now celebrated every year, all around the world.

There’s no guest list, no special password, no Twitter competition. All you have to do is turn up at your nearest Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop – find yours

You just queue up and then you get to choose a free cone of any ice cream flavour you want.

And there’s no limit on how many free cones you have – once you’ve finished one, you can just get back in line and choose another. ‘We’re not counting. Really, go for it’, they promise.

But, who are we kidding – we had you had free ice cream didn’t we?
