KG BENGKURONG, MASIN

Members of the Chinese Youth Volunteer to Brunei along with student volunteers from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) organised various activities themed on Chinese culture for students of Pusat Ehsan at its centre in Bengkurong yesterday.

The activities involved younger students of Pusat Ehsan, who were taught Tai-Chi, Chinese paper cutting, and Chinese opera face makeup colouring. A passing-the-ball game and the group photo session were other highlights of the event.

The last time when the Chinese group visited, activities involved older students.

Luo Ting, vice group leader of the Chinese Youth Volunteer to Brunei, said the additional volunteers were students from UBD, mostly from the PAP Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences.

"As our volunteer programme will end in June, we want these activities to continue, that's why we have invited more students to join us. Hopefully, even after we return to China, there will be others who will continue the voluntary works," she said.

The volunteers in China would be doing similar work at centres similar to Pusat Ehsan, where they would clean rooms of the special needs individuals, teach them games and train them to take part in stage performances, she explained.

The Chinese Youth Volunteer Group to Brunei is part of a volunteer programme organised by the Chinese government. Currently, there are 10 volunteers who are working with different faculties of UBD.

Back in China, members of the group work as doctors, dentists, nurses, teachers and lecturers.

Also attending the activities were group leader He Guowei and vice group leader Wu Shuzhen.
