A pagan priest is celebrating being given permission to wear his religious headgear in his new driving license photo.

Phelan MoonSong’s brand new license features a picture of him sporting his huge horns, which he wears for religious reasons.

Mr MoonSong, who changed his name in June, was initially turned down by the the Bangor Bureau of Motor Vehicles in Maine when he applied for the right to wear his horns in the picture.

But after visiting another centre in Portland, Maine, he explained his religious beliefs and won his battle, the Bangor Daily News reported.

He wrote on Facebook: ‘I won. Picture with horns allowed and being retaken.’

He told the Bangor Daily News: ‘I have used it publicly as my name (except in legal matters) since 2007 when I was initiated in a Coven.’

But he did not have any ID with his new name, leading him to apply for a new driving license.

A photo was taken by the department in Maine, who later rejected his application.
