Dec 19 Water Disruption Will Not Extend To All Areas Covered By Treatment Plants

PETALING JAYA

The scheduled water disruption in the Klang Valley on Dec 19 will not extend to all areas operated by the three water treatment plants affected.

Only the Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Selangor and Kuala Lumpur areas will be affected by the disruption which is due to maintenance works carried out by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) at the Bukit Badong substation.

In a statement on Friday, Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) corporate communications head Amin Lin Abdullah said the three water treatment plants affected, namely the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant (LRA) Sungai Selangor Phase 1 (SSP1); LRA SSP2 and the LRA SSP3, would be partially shut down.

“All three water treatment plants will still operate partially utilising generator sets, which are capable of supplying between 50% to 60% of the power supply,” he said.

Amin also said that there would be a shortfall in the production of treated water in the affected areas from Dec 19 to 24.

“The partial shutdown of the water treatment plants will not affect all areas that receive water supply from the aforementioned water treatment plants,” he said.

He advised customers to store sufficient water before Dec 19.

“As part of the efforts to ensure that water supply is distributed more efficiently after the water treatment plants resume their operations, water will be supplied based on a schedule to affected areas by zones from Dec 19 to 24,” said Amin.

Relief water supply will also be made available to affected zones without water supply due to low water level in the service reservoirs.

On Thursday, National Water Services Commission (SPAN) said that around 3,892,641 water users in the Klang Valley would be affected by the scheduled water disruption.
