A 24-year old local man was ordered by the Magistrate's Court yesterday to pay a fine or $3,000 or serve three months in jail in default, after he pleaded guilty to possession of smuggled cigarettes.

Md Yasma Arif bin Matyassin arrived at the Kuala Lurah Control Post at 11 am on December 16, 2016 and did not declare eight cartons of cigarettes he had brought with him in his car.

The Customs examiner at the post inspected the defendant's car and found the cigarettes. Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid presided over the case.
